My ceramic work intertwines historical Japanese and Chinese vessel forms—specifically those refined during the Qing dynasty—with contemporary painterly surfaces that reflect women’s complex relationships with their bodies. My work draws from the visual authority of imperial ceramics while challenging the perfection, symmetry, and restraint traditionally associated with these objects. By juxtaposing these classical shapes with expressive, gestural surface treatments, I seek to create a dialogue between history and lived experience, between standards of beauty and the raw, shifting reality of embodiment.
