My current work with red earthenware is quite basic--a conversation with clay, glazes, shapes and patterns. I particularly enjoy the visual and tactile contrasts between the glazed and unglazed surfaces of clay. My most successful approach includes working in series based on a form with variations, particularly the vessel. In this continuing series I am exploring a range of expressions and techniques that all begin with the same three sided stretched slab form. I draw inspiration from my own drawing, historical references, and whimsical faux forms such as non-functioning pitchers. It is through this work with series that I feel most free to explore multiple responses and my imagination.
